Less than a fortnight after winning over Britain and finding world-wide fame, a Susan Boyle backlash has begun.
While the unlikely Britain’s Got Talent sensation became an internet hit and found a raft of famous fans last week, today Louis Walsh claimed she couldn’t live up to the hype.
The X Factor judge and Westlife manager said of the 47-year-old singer: “Susan is a pretty good singer but she’s not a great singer”.

Susan Boyle and Paul Potts: Not Quite Out of Nowhere

The story of Susan Boyle — like that of Paul Potts before her — is, except to the most jaded and curmudgeonly among us, completely irresistible. Fished, seemingly, from the bottom of the troll pond by Britain’s Got Talent, these two humble, working-class, physically ill-favored souls were suddenly found to be capable of creating things of astonishing beauty. People reacted as if vast quantities of treasure were discovered in the trunk of a broken-down Hyundai abandoned on their street. It was always there, but nobody had ever bothered to look. Thanks to that grouchy Simon Cowell (and YouTube), the two amateur singers each became overnight sensations, bringing lumps to the throats and surreptitious wiping of the eyes to millions, including the show’s judges.

THERE’S still another six months to go until The X-Factor returns to our TV screens. American Idol has finished now, which means that to keep Simon Cowell’s money rolling in, Britain’s Got Talent is back.
I hadn’t intended to watch this series until I stumbled across the first episode, showing the Scottish auditions. Ever since Cowell criticised the lack of talent this side of the border – to be fair I think he only did it once, but we never forget these things – I like to watch in the hope that someone will make him eat his words.

Wednesday’s British budget has been signposted as the most important budget for a generation and will probably see UK Chancellor Alistair Darling coming clean about the state of public finances.
The Chancellor will probably acknowledge that his confident call just 5 months ago of a modest 0.75 percent to 1.25 percent contraction in GDP was somewhat wide of the mark. The Bank of England’s own estimates range between 3 percent and 4 percent..

ET spoke to Fergie, Wyclef Jean, Jesse McCartney, and Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart Wednesday night in Hollywood at the 26th Annual ASCAP Pop Awards — and the stars were abuzz about Internet singing sensation Susan Boyle.
“What a beautiful voice, what a wonderful singer,” Fergie tells ET. “She’s amazing. I think she could definitely have a huge career. Her voice is lovely.”

A few weeks ago, I ran across an article about a singer named Adele and I headed straight for iTunes, confident that she was worth a listen. Why? Because the article had a photo of the ordinary-looking, plus-sized artist, and I immediately concluded that if she was getting attention, it was entirely because of her talent. These days, that makes her unusual.

I Just Don’t Get the Big Deal with Susan Boyle

I JUST DON’T GET THE BIG DEAL WITH SUSAN BOYLE. I watched the video on YouTube. In case you haven’t seen it (but almost everyone I know has), it’s a clip from the British TV show Britain’s Got Talent (which is, from what I can tell, just a televised talent show, with Simon Cowell as the head judge.) It starts with the pre-performance interview showing a small-town, homely 40-something woman, mentioning that she’s never been kissed–Susan Boyle.

NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) – Cyndi Lauper says it would be “fantastic” if British singing sensation Susan Boyle accepted an offer to be in a planned film starring the U.S. pop singer and actress Tippi Hedren.

‘South Park’ attacks Somalia and Susan Boyle

Cartman, under the impression that Somalia’s pirates are the old walk-the-plank, eye-patch-wearing, skull-and-crossbones flying sort, dragooned a bunch of pals all the way around the world, only to find indigent North Africans wracked by disease and poverty. It was a fine South Park, complete with an excellent, profane pirate song (“We’ll cut off your c— and feed it to a croc”), and predictable but no less funny depictions of the French as pretentious cowards.
